Colour is a powerful and fundamental communication tool.
We use different colours to soothe and to excite, to attract or to repel, to put people at ease or keep them on their toes.
Colour is coded into our culture. White is used for purity, whilst black underlies mourning. Green is environmental and friendly, while blue is serene and soothing. Red is fiery and proud, orange is healthy and yellow is happy.
We use colours to represent political parties and religious groups, levels of authority and performance. They indicate different areas in hospitals, schools, offices and recreation areas. They point out difficulty levels and alternative routes.
Colour is perceived immediately, before our mind even has the time to focus on text or images.
